About our sports work

Game day from the sideline. Jonah shot high school and club sports for years before weddings took over the calendar, and this collection is from that work: basketball, football, soccer, hockey, softball, baseball, volleyball and lacrosse.

Sports photography is a different discipline from everything else on this site. You are working at the long end of the lens, at shutter speeds that freeze a moving athlete, in gym light that is almost always worse than it looks, and you cannot ask for the play again. Knowing the game matters as much as knowing the camera, because the frame worth having is the one you were already pointed at.

What families want out of it is usually the same: their own athlete, sharp, in the middle of doing the thing they are good at, plus the bench and the celebration around it.
