Best of Couples
About our couples work
Proposals and engagement sessions, which in practice are often the same afternoon. This collection covers both: the moment itself, shot from a distance with nobody the wiser, and the session that follows while it is all still sinking in.
A proposal is about four seconds long. We scout the spot beforehand, work out where the light will be at the time you have chosen, and find somewhere to stand that reads as a person waiting for a friend rather than a photographer waiting for a moment. Long lens, no tripod, nothing that makes anyone look twice.
Engagement sessions are the rehearsal nobody tells you that you need. Most couples have never been photographed properly together, and the first twenty minutes of any session go on getting past that. Doing it before the wedding means that on the day itself neither of you is starting from cold.
The locations here run from the Chicago lakefront and the river walk down to prairie restorations around Kane County that come up shoulder high in July. The ones shot somewhere with a reason behind it are almost always the ones people frame.
