An engagement session is the rehearsal nobody tells you that you need. Most couples have never been photographed properly together, and the first twenty minutes of any session are spent getting past that. Doing it now means that on the wedding day we are not starting from zero, and neither are you.
It is also the only shoot in the run up to the wedding where you get to choose everything. The place, the time of day, what you wear, whether it is the lakefront in the city or a prairie path ten minutes from your house. We have shot these on the Chicago lakefront, in wildflower fields around Kane County, on the river walk downtown and in people's own back gardens, and the ones in the ordinary places are usually the ones people frame.
You get the photos for save the dates, for the website, for the print at the entrance to the reception, and for the wall afterwards. Most of it is walking and talking. Very little of it is standing still and smiling at the camera.
