Once you pass Elburn the subdivisions stop and it is farmland the rest of the way. For a photographer that is the appeal: hedgerows, grain bins, long gravel drives and a horizon with nothing built on it. Late summer through October the fields here carry color you cannot get anywhere closer to the city.
The Metra station and the old brick along Main Street give a second look in the same trip, which matters for a senior session that needs range without an hour of driving between setups.
Barn venues in the surrounding townships have become a real part of the wedding season out here. They photograph well and they are also genuinely dark inside after sunset, so we plan the lighting for those receptions in advance rather than improvising once the sun has gone.
