Elgin was a watchmaking town, and the industrial brick that came with that is still standing along the river. For photography it means hard edges, deep red walls and loading bay geometry within a few minutes of parkland, which is the mix that makes a senior or an editorial portrait session work without driving anywhere.
The Fox River cuts a deeper channel here than it does further south, and the banks around Walton Island give you water level access with the bridges overhead. The Hemmens and the Elgin Tower Building put real architecture in frame for anyone who wants the city rather than a treeline.
There is also a steady stream of commercial work here. Elgin has a large manufacturing and logistics base, and businesses along the corridor need team headshots, floor coverage and recruitment video far more often than they need anything that looks like a wedding gallery.
