Sugar Grove is small and mostly open, and that is exactly what it is good for. Bliss Woods gives old oak cover for anything that needs shade at the wrong time of day, and the land around it is flat enough that you get a clean horizon and a lot of sky, which is what you want when a storm front is building and the light goes strange.
A lot of the sessions we book out here are ones that could not work in a park. Large extended family groups that need space, senior sessions with a car or a horse in the frame, proposals where the whole point is that there is nobody else around.
Waubonsee's campus is here too, which brings graduation work every spring, and the community college crowd tends to want their portraits somewhere other than the campus lawn once the cap and gown frames are done.
Where we shoot in Sugar Grove
What Sugar Grove books us for
- Family PhotographyRoom for a large extended group without anyone walking through the back of a frame.
- Graduation PhotographyCampus frames first, then somewhere that does not look like a campus for the rest of the set.
- Proposal PhotographyOpen ground and no passers by, which is the whole requirement for some proposals.
